SingTel to fully roll out live 300Mbps 4G service in Singapore by 2015

The telco has also extended its 4G roaming service to China.

By the end of 2015, Singapore will have nationwide coverage of SingTel's 4G service that is capable of offering data speeds of up to 300Mbps.

Currently, Singapore Expo is the only live site that is ready for service.  By the end of this year, more than half of the republic will be covered, including the Central Business District, Changi Airport and popular shopping malls, according to SingTel's media statement.

The telco also mentioned that all SingTel 4G customers with compatible devices will be able to enjoy the service at no additional charge. The first compatible device, the Huawei E5786 MiFi dongle, will be available from SingTel in mid-July.

"Our customers are seeking higher speeds for their increasingly bandwidth-hungry multimedia applications," said Johan Buse, SingTel's vice president of consumer marketing. "We are constantly upgrading our networks with the latest technologies [to fulfill those needs]."

SingTel's 4G data roaming service in China
SingTel has added China to its list of 4G roaming network as it is the "second most popular destination for Singapore travellers," said Buse.

Singapore mobile users who subscribe to SingTel's DataRoam Saver service will now able to enjoy unlimited 4G data usage via ChinaMobile, a mobile operator in China that is a partner of SingTel, for S$20 (US$16) a day.

"With DataRoam Saver, customers do not need to search for elusive WiFi hotspots or rely on pricey hotel WiFi services," said Buse. "The Network Lock feature which comes with the plan will eliminate bill shock too."

The service is currently available for iPhone 5S and 5C smartphones as these are the only handsets that are compatible with the 4G mobile frequencies used by China Mobile. Other handsets will be supported in the coming months.
