The Samsung Galaxy S5 is here but where is that now classic mini version of the flagship smartphone which is smaller and cheaper? We investigate the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini release date, price and specs.
If you like the look of the Samsung Galaxy S5 but want something a bit smaller and more budget friendly, then the Galaxy S5 mini could be just the smartphone for you.
Traditionally, Samsung launches a mini version of its flagship device a little while after its launched so here's where we take a look at the possible Galaxy S5 mini release date, price and specs.
Samsung Galaxy S5 mini: Release date
There's no word from Samsung on a Galaxy S5 mini launch event or release date so we'll let you know as soon as we hear something. However, the smartphone is rumoured to be arriving in the second quarter which means we should see is before the end of June.
Samsung Galaxy S5 mini: Price
As usual we're speculating on the price for the Galaxy S5 mini for now. The Galaxy S4 mini came in at around £380 on a SIM-free basis and we expect the Galaxy S5 mini to hit this area too. Our money is on £399.
Samsung Galaxy S5 mini: Specs
Although the release date and price of the Galaxy S5 mini remain something of a mystery, the specifications for the pint-sized smartphone have been leaked. See also: LG G3 release date, price, specs and new features UK: Quad HD screen, Official Teaser video and press renders.
Whether they are correct or not, we cannot verify but SamMobile reports that the Galaxy S5 mini will feature a 4.5in Super AMOLED screen with a 720p resolution. That's a reasonable amount smaller than the 5.1in screen found on the full-size Galaxy S5 and an improvement on the qHD resolution found on the Galaxy S4 mini.
The Galaxy S5 mini will come with Android 4.4 KitKat and be powered by one of Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. Which chip is unclear but it's likely to be the Snapdragon 400, says SamMobile.
Samsung is reportedly packing the Galaxy S5 mini with 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8Mp rear camera, 2Mp front camera, an infrared transmitter and a 2100mAh battery. It's a similar spec to the Galaxy S4 mini but the phone is tipped to come with a dust- and waterproof design (IP67).
It's unlikely to come with the same fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor which are both big features of the Galaxy S5.
We'll let you know more details on the Galaxy S5 mini as they emerge but let us know what you think and what you would like in the comments below.
