Malaysia's MOL part of 7-Eleven in-store services boost

7-Eleven Malaysia’s partnerships with online service providers MOL, Touch 'n Go reload and InComm also help launch the ‘first POSA by any retailer in the country.’

Nationwide convenience store chain 7-Eleven Malaysia has expanded its in-store services through partnerships with online services providers MOL, Touch 'n Go reload and InComm.

7-Eleven Malaysia deputy chief executive officer Gary Brown said the in-store services, available through almost 1600 stores, comprise Touch 'n Go reload services, point-of-sales activated gift cards with InComm, which will be rolled out in partnership with 7-Eleven's online payments and technology partner MOL.

Brown said that this move reinforced 7-Eleven Malaysia's commitment in bringing the latest retail offerings as well as added convenience to its 900,000 daily customers.  "We listen to what our customers want and we are always striving to meet their needs by introducing the latest, most interesting and sought after services and products."

"We believe these gift cards and added payment convenience with Touch 'n Go will be a further attraction to our shoppers," he said. "It further complements 7-Eleven's recent roll-out of offerings such as wider and better range of fresh food, innovative additions to our merchandize mix, improved store appearance, feel and layout with free Wi-Fi and seating areas as well as more attention grabbing consumer programmes."

"In addition to all of these new services, we also recently launched the first 7-Eleven co-branded loyalty card in collaboration with BCard and it is now available at all of our Klang Valley stores with a nationwide roll-out in the next month or so," he said.

"In-Store services are a significant profit contributor to our bottom line and will be a major contributor to our growth moving forward as the these services do not require significant floor space in our stores and allow us to grow revenues without incurring significant costs," Brown said. "We hope that these innovative efforts in partnership with MOL will allow us to provide the best and ultimate convenience experience for shoppers and consumers. It will further reinforce our positioning as the undisputed leading one-stop, 24 hour stand-alone convenience retailer in the country as we continuously seek new ways to further enhance the public's shopping experience with us."

 First POSA gift card launch by Malaysian retailer

InComm International senior director, global development, Simon Osgood said  the partnership also sees the first Point Of Sale Activated (POSA) gift cards launch by any retailer in Malaysia.

"Our partnership with 7-Eleven originally started 12 years ago when we started distributing MOLPoints, our pioneering currency for digital games through 7-Eleven stores in Malaysia," said Bangah. "This partnership later expanded to include distribution of mobile reloads through our MOLReload terminal infrastructure and recently to include payments for e-commerce services through the enablement of MOLPay cash payments at 7-Eleven outlets"

"Point Of Sales activated gift cards is a huge billion dollar industry in developed markets such as the United States with InComm being the undisputed pioneer and leader in this industry," he added. "In these markets, InComm distributes gift cards for global brands such as Apple, Starbucks and Google. We are proud to say that 7-Eleven Malaysia is the first convenience store chain in South East Asia to sign with MOL and InComm to roll out POSA Gift Cards and we hope to bring some of these global brands to Malaysia shores soon."
