IT management salaries are soaring, but even the rank and file in certain types of work are enjoying significant raises

Management salaries are soaring

Meanwhile, salaries for IT managers have soared. Looking at the top 25 best paid job titles in management, PayScale found that the median pay was $139,360 a year, compared to $102,924 for the best-paying non-management jobs in IT.

There aren't many hardware-related skills on the list. The one that jumps out is ASIC engineer, with a median salary of $103,000 a year. But that paucity of highly paid hardware positions shouldn't come as a surprise. With so much of the hardware sector in the throes of commoditization, it's only natural that demand for related specialties is down. That's not to say salaries in the hardware area are down. The data only shows that those with hardware-related jobs aren't getting the largest raises.
